Rules
- We play by USGA rules. Local course rules have precedent. All course out of bounds, including in course, will be observed.
- Play of the day will be posted on the men’s first tee. If not posted, play the ball down. The club traditionally plays men’s white tees and women’s red tees, unless notified by the tournament chairman prior to the competition. Summer rules: play the ball down. Winter rules: lift clean and place anywhere within six inches, except in a hazard or bunker.
- The club has implemented Local Rule E-5 Alternative to stroke and distance for lost ball or ball out of bounds. A USGA video explains how it works.
- You must sign your scorecard and turn it in to the tournament chairman before you leave. If you do not, you may be disqualified.
- If during a round you DQ yourself, you must still post your adjusted score with the NCGA. You will still be eligible for closest to the pin and birdies on all par threes.
- If during a round, you and your group cannot decide on a ruling, play two balls for that hole, record the score for both balls, then get a ruling from the golf course or from one of the tournament officials at the end of your round.
- You must have a NCGA index to be eligible for club prizes and awards. All prizes use net score, unless notified by the tournament chairman prior to competition.
- Each tournament will offer three flights for competition based on handicap, unless notified by the tournament chairman prior to competition. These flights will be divided as equally as possible with the final flight numbers being determined by the handicap chairman.
- We give out awards for closest to the pin and birdies for each par three. Some tournaments, with prior notification, may be all birdie tournaments, where you will receive an award for any birdie.
- We have a front and back side-pot bet. The prize fund is split, half is paid to the front nine low net, and the other half goes to the back side low net.
- Guests are not eligible for prizes or awards, unless notified by the tournament chairman prior to the competition.
- You must play four tournaments a year to remain active in the club.
- You have until the closing date (fees due date) that we post in the schedule to sign up for a tournament. After that, we will take people only to fill partial groups. We will not call the golf course to add groups. You are responsible for finding your own replacement if you are signed up for a tournament and can’t make it. If you get in touch with us, sometimes we have someone on a waiting list for the tournament.
Policies
NCGA
The UAL 32 Golf Club is a Northern California Golf Association Associate Club and follows the rules and guidelines of the NCGA.
The club sponsors members to NCGA qualifying tournaments for associate clubs. Championship rounds are paid for by the member himself and at the end of the year members will be reimbursed the balance remaining in the fund divided by the number of golfers that advance. If no one advances, the extra funds, if any, go into the general fund. Rules, dates, and times are found in the NCGA Blue Book Edition.
Each member that plays in a club tournament pays three dollars into a fund (NCGA fund), which is used to pay the tournament fees for those members that qualify to represent the club in the NCGA associate club golf tournaments.
Regular Tournament Format
- One tournament each month. The UAL 32 Club tournament season is from November to October. (NCGA membership year is from January to December.)
- 3 flights, by NCGA index, and we award three places in each flight. First place and net score ties for first place in each flight qualify for Club Championship. All ties are broken by the back 9 total, then sudden death at #1 handicap hole, #2 handicap, etc., also each flight will have a low gross bonus, if the low gross in a flight does not come in one of the first three places. This will be considered a place award for the club championship qualifying (exceptions: Sept. Rider Shoot-Out and Oct. 2 Man Scramble).
Flights will be divided as equally as possible into 3 flights. Handicap Chairman makes final determination. (Voted October 2014 at annual October meeting to reduce to 2 flights until club membership increases).
The club uses white tees for men and red tees for women, unless notified by the Tournament Chairman before the tournament.
- We award closest to the pin and birdies on par 3. If a course has more or less than four par 3's, then the prize fund is divided by that number (some tournaments may be all birdie tournaments). Voted 2019 to increase birdies on par 3's to $5 award.
- Side pots, front and back, except for the October tournament. The club uses the low net scores of the entire group, no sudden death, ties split the side pot. A dollar is collected from each member in the tournament to fund the side pot. Side pot fund divided equally for front and back nines.
- Prizes for Hole in One and Eagles
Eagle
Members that get an Eagle during a club tournament will receive a $40 prize award from the club (except scramble format).
A maximum of 3 eagles per member, per season will be awarded (Voted 2011).
Hole in One
Members that get a "Hole in One" during a club tournament will receive a "Hole in One" prize award from the club. The prize award is presented at the year-end annual banquet. The fund is generated by collecting a dollar from each member entering a tournament until it reaches $500. In the event no one has a "Hole in One", the fund is carried over to the next year. If the fund does not reach $500 in a year, the balance collected will be used.
- If a single winner, the prize awarded will be a gift certificate of $320 for golf merchandise.
- If multiple hole in one winners, the total fund collected that year or a max. up to $500 is divided by that number.
- Annual payout system (Visa Gift Card) at tournament season end. Season runs from November thru October.
- If a member gets a "Hole in one" in the last Tournament of the season (October), the prize will be awarded the following year (voted October 2017).
Tournament Day
Hopefully you will get to the golf course at least 45 minutes before your tee time! Check in with the Course Starter and the club Tournament Chairman. This lets the Tournament Chairman inform you of the rules of the day, side games, etc. and make any player changes if necessary.
After your round of golf, check in at the Officials Table (usually at the course restaurant and/or bar) with the club Handicap Chairman. Then, turn in your signed score card to him and point out any birdies.
Rain
In reality, the golf course has the final word if course is playable under current conditions or not. Most golf courses try to work with us to re-schedule, and unfortunately this happens at the last minute. So, if you don’t hear it thru the grapevine and you are in doubt, CALL THE GOLF COURSE before you leave home. I will try to get the information out, but with the short time period involved, I may not have time. The course should be able to give you that information.
Odds and Ends
Annual payout system
Instead of payouts for prize awards after each tournament, the club will have one payout, at the end of the tournament season at or before the October annual banquet, of your year’s total earnings.
Blue book
When you receive the NCGA magazine (January Edition), known as the Blue Book Edition, KEEP IT, it's got all the NCGA tournament information, course locations, course information, and slope/handicap information.
Soft Spikes!
Almost all of the courses require soft spikes now, so make sure you have a pair.
Payment
Please write separate checks for each event and/or tournament. It's OK to pay for more than one person with the same check as long as it's for the same event! Make checks payable to: UAL 32 Golf Club.
Tournament season
